Congratulations, Sally on conducting a clean, honest campaign and winning on it.
Good Luck and Best Wishes

It’s quite clear now why Harold refused to publicly debate me on the issues and announced his candidacy for Supervisor 12 days before the election. When a campaign is run on misinformation, the last thing you want to do is give your opponent a chance to respond and counter your strategy of lies and distortion.

“Setting the Record straight” on this blog will be my focus from here on out. I barely survived a surprise attack campaign of misinformation. Under those circumstances, it’s difficult to take the highroad, but I intend to counter the misinformation with “facts”. At least then, the voter will be accurately informed, having heard all sides of an issue when they go to the polls and pull the lever for a candidate.

I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. Your votes counted.

Did you delete that comment because it was against you ?

Actually "watching you", I read the comment and can confirm that the comment was zealously in support of Sally, and well meaning in its language, but made some very strong statements about Harold's campaign supporters, as well as stating some names.

I spoke with Sally about the post this morning and we decided to remove the comment, because she wants everyone to take the high road going forward and stay away from the finger pointing and name calling, as it serve no good purpose.

"sickofpolitics"- if you would like to re-write your post, taking the high road, we will do our best to get your message across to those who are reading here.

Harold never announced his candidacy. He never chose to run for Town of Lindley Supervisor. Concerned Lindley Town citizens started a write in campaign in hopes he would again be the Supervisor. As a matter of fact, the ball was rolling for a write in campaign before he was even aware of it. Just to "set the record straight".

Hmmm...why were there signs up around town and in his own yard, with his picture on it, if he wasn't aware?

I heard that there is a letter that Gerry Gross wrote to the state, begging them to let Hawbaker's have a permit. Does the Town Board have a copy and, if yes, could you please publish the letter on here, so we can see what she really said.

Three is a lot of gossip, and the voters want to know the truth!

If you read my post you will see I said "the ball was rolling for a write in campaign before he was even aware of it". I never said Haorld knew nothing about the campaign. I just stated when the process started he was unaware of what was going on.

Anonymous said...

who got the ball rolling?

Good question!

Again, read what I wrote, "Concerned Lindley Town citizens started a write in campaign in hopes he (Harold) would again be the Supervisor".

141 write in votes and he was unaware. Sure now- where was he on the moon???

Does not take long to get votes for someone a lot of people like so much! Obviously, Harold became aware of the campaign once it was planned and began. However, he had no part in it and has no money invested. It was all done by the concerned citizens of Lindley.

Seems like you are very narrow minded. No matter what I say you will interpret it the way you want to. This will be my last post because of the narrow mindedness here. As I said, no matter what I say you will interpret it the way you want.

As for who started the campaign, I don't think that is for me to say.

oh, and by the way, I am sure everyone would be very surprised at who I am as I am not who you think!

Sally removed my post the other day and I named the names. I know you were on the list. I told people about the deceitful lies and nonsense that you were all saying to unwitting people who got visited. I know what you said because I know some of them.

You sure didn't have an honest campaign and with the number of people you talked to Harold had to know.

To Harold supporters don't always believe everything you hear, especially from certain people with axes to grind in this town.

Sickofpolitics...as I said, I am not who you think. I had nothing to do with the campaign but had first hand knowledge.

seinunxTo anonymous who knows who they think they know who they are-Can we believe you -- you said that was your last post?
And we are glad you think you know who you are -we'd hate to think you didn't.

Elections over,Folks -Be glad you are able to voice your opinions -and to be able to vote.
There are always bad apples in barrels, but time to bury the hatchet and get on with life.

Sally has said she will leave blog open for questions if it isn't abused- Sounds like a good way to get some of the residents questions out in the open and answered. Let's be fair and give her a chance.

The names of the concerned citizens group don’t need to be posted. Four of them went door to door campaigning for Harold -- who didn’t know he was running even with the signs posted all over town and everyone knows the people behind the scenes that ran his campaign to. There Hawbacker supporters. These are the same people who gave Sally fits since she’s been supervisor. Harold’s campaign was run underhanded, sneaky and dishonest just like sick of politics said. I read there comment before Sally deleted it. I don’t attend the meetings but I hear about the trouble they cause and it started just as soon as she took over. I remember when Harold was supervisor and the underhanded things like spying on people trying to catch them not getting permits. A couple of board members quit when he asked them to spy on us to and good for them. To the person that wants us to believe we don’t know who they are. I know who you are and your lucky Sally don’t allow your names to be posted. I don’t know ehy she protects you.

anonymous- you may think we don't know who you are, but words gave you away. Don't bother running for re-election!

Stayed tuned for my response to Mary Jane Semple's Letter to the Editor in the Addison Post.

Dear Mary Jane:

I understand how you must feel now that your husband Harold lost the election, especially after running a passionate write-in campaign and losing by a few votes.

Winning is easy. Losing is hard.

Before I entered the race for Supervisor back in 2005, I spent much of my time working through possible personal bumps in the event I lost the election. How would I handle it? Would I be bitter? Would I feel sorry for myself or blame others for my defeat? Would I be a sore loser and vilify my opponent for winning? It was important to settle the prospect of losing before I even entered the race.

I determined to rest my fate with the voters in Lindley. If they decided that Mr. Stermer would be the better Supervisor I would accept my loss with grace. I went through the same process when your husband ran against me this time.

You mentioned in your letter to the Addison Post there are “those who are not happy with any situation in town, let your voice be heard.”

Those who are not happy with any situation in town can respectfully voice their concerns and opinions on this blog or attend a Town Board meeting. I’d like to hear specifically what “situations” they are unhappy with, considering that every “situation” that came before the Board in the last two years was voted on by five members. As Supervisor, I have “one” vote. From my vantage point, it would appear I do not have the authority to take the Town in any direction unless two other Board members vote with me.

You direct the Gentlemen of the Lindley Town Board as you refer to them in your letter, “to hold your head high and continue to work for those of Lindley who wanted to see a change in leadership for the town.” With that remark, it’s obvious you wanted to create a public impression that I do not have the full support of the four members of the Town Board, but neither did your husband when he served as Supervisor. When our local democracy is working, each Board member brings an opinion to the table. They are not “Yes Men”, nor do I expect them to be. What I expect is honest, persuasive debate based on the best information, an understanding of the issues and of the people they represent. Their support of me is not necessary for them to perform their legislative duties. I am confident under my leadership they will continue to work for the benefit of the Town as they see it, one issue, one Roll Call at a time.

Well said, Sal!

Sally; we don't get the Addison Post. Could you put Mary Janes letter on the blog.

the letter to editor mentions gentlemen . is that to imply there is sexual bias about the leadeship on the part of a few in town

Good job , Sally- good explanation on how a Town Board is"supposed "to function. This has not always been the case with past administrations in this town. Sometimes in the past 2 years, even the public has had a chance to voice their opinion on the notion that government is of the people ,by the people and for the people.

It is a known fact that past administrations decided issues in grocery stores, milk trucks and even garages.

Since the same 5 people are serving on the Board as in the past 2 years, the town's people would be the benefactors of open, mature discussions.

Looking forward to a productive next 2 years.
